Sweet Temptations @ 1-Caramel

Was invited by Open Rice Sg (@OpenRice_Sg in twitter) for a dessert tasting session at Luxe - 1-Caramel recently, and had the honour of meeting the fun loving people behind the group who is going to many places for food tastings and so on.

Met with bloggers of all sorts - lifestyle, food, etc, who were there to try out the super sinful and yet delicious pastries and desserts that were the main attraction at 1-Caramel.

The overall ambience of the place gives a very comforting feel which is both classy and fresh.

So what did we have for our meal at 1-Caramel? Read on and find out....

Worried that we might be hungry before the actual tasting, the kind management provide some light refreshments for us to savour prior to the main attraction:

Savoury Platter

Pizza with Smoked Salmon

Pizza with Portobello Mushrooms and Feta

Overall, the platter and pizzas did more than just fill us up to sustain for the main attraction, the dishes themselves were quite unique to the tastebuds! The Garlic and Herb Toast was wonderful - by spreading the garlic, olive tapenade and the hummus over the bread, I experienced three different flavour flavour rushes. If you are however, not an olive fan, the tapenade might be a little too flavourful for you. The other winning dish in the platter was the Mini-quiche - I had the crab quiche, very full on the flavour as well.

The pizzas were different from the conventional types you can find elsewhere, as the crust is more akin to biscuits than a normal pizza dough kind. The smoked salmon was the really unique one, the flavours blend well with each other, without any ingredient of the pizza overshadowing another ingredient.

I would say, that you can get a rather decent meal by eating at 1-Caramel, just by having these specially designed treats.

And now, the stars of the show - The Pastries and Desserts:

Chocolate Praline Cake

This was the main culprit that made me lose my sanity while @melissalim interviewed me. I was so in love with the taste of the chocolate that it blew me away. Very rich and very thick chocolate, a must have for any chocolate lovers!

A very interesting blend of flavours that comprises of the main ingredients of Japanese Desserts. Midori is made with green tea and azuki beans (red beans) as the base. So blissfully light that it made me reach a Zen mode for a moment:

Lychee Rose

This one is not too sweet, and the cream is not too thick for the taste, nice for a light delight!

160 Degrees

This one is for those with a very very sweet tooth. The caramel in this cake gives it a very rich flavour and is sure to make anyone feel the sugar rush instantly! Get an instant high~!

Strawberry Short Cake

Another signature cake from 1-Caramel, the Strawberry shortcake is a very sweet treat for the ladies out there. A winner in all aspects and the size of it too!

Banana Cream Pie

For those who love the rich taste of cream and banana, this pie is for you. Not too sweet, and has a nice crust to go with it, this is good to go with some tea, for an afternoon tea time with friends.

Malteser Cheesecake

A very special cheesecake. The taste of cheese is ever so evident in the cake that it will hit the spot right on. The crust of the cheesecake gives it a very wholesome feel to the different textures of the cake. A recommended choice!

Warm Apple Crumble

The warm dessert from the list of cold ones. This is a dessert that isn't too sweet as well, and has a salted butterscotch ice-cream to go with it. A must have for those who like to eat desserts sans the extra sweetness.

Passion Fruit Soufflé

Another warm dessert from 1-Caramel. This one has a very tangy flavour to it, and might be a little challenging to eat - the soufflé deflates rather fast, so one must be quick to eat it without getting scalded!

Hazelnut Praline Soufflé

This one is more normal in the sweetness department. Well prepared and the ice-cream that went with this dessert is wonderful.

This place deserves a rating for:
Food: 7 / 10
Service: 7 / 10
Ambience: 6.5 / 10

Overall: 7 / 10

A nice place to hang out with friends, especially for an afternoon tea. They have weekday lunch sets too, so if you are around the area during lunch, its good to take a look. Pricing is average, so most students to working adults can eat here without burning a pocket.
