KT's Grill @ Universal Studios Singapore

On Friday, 20 Aug 2010, I went to Universal Studios and the initial experience from walking around the place, really impressed me and left quite an impression. Couldn't take much pics as I was travelling around with Dear and her family members.

Then of course, when walking around, one will definitely become hungry, so we went in to KT's Grill to have a meal.

The internal décor of the place really gave it a very nice nostalgic feel.

Seems like the place was divided into various sections for different dining pleasures. Level 1 is where there is live music being played, Level 2 has a dining area that is near the open-concept kitchen, a quiet dining room, and another dining area nearer to the bar counter.

I was mainly doing my job of taking pictures and left the ordering of food to Dear and her family.

Bread was being served as the appetizer and it was very fresh. Crust and core are of the right textures, without giving the jaws a gruelling job.

The order came pretty quickly, within 5 - 10 minutes and here is the line-up:

Mozzarella Sticks

The Mozzarella sticks are so so... the inner core is kind of hard (if it was oozing with melted cheese...mmmmm) and the dips are forgettable. And no, don't doubt it. This dish is served with only 4 sticks. Quite pricey for a simple dish.

Onion rings

When was the last time anyone had onion rings with size like that? Pretty impressive.... right? Ok... for this dish, it is only passable. The onion rings were cooked only to 80%, with some raw onion taste being left over. Non raw onion fans would be disappointed by the onion rings (but I'm generally ok with the taste).

Mushroom Soup

This soup is just nice, not too creamy, not too watery. The mushroom bits are diced to fine bits that are easy to swallow. This dish scores.

Original Double Cheeseburger

Nice burger. The buns are soft and easy to chew on, and the beef patties are succulent. Fries are similar to MOS burger standard, but more salty.

Beer-battered Fish n' Chips

The Fish n' Chips are pretty normal. Couldn't taste any beer inside of it. The tartar sauce is no where near delicious.

Wood-fire Mixed Grill Combo Platter

This is the most disappointing dish of all. For a price of $35, one would expect bigger slices/chunks of meat. But this really is too little. Originally it came as, cheese sausage, beef, lamb and pork. We had the lamb changed to another piece of rib-eye steak. The ribeye was ok, easy to chew on and being cooked to medium was quite acceptable. The cheese sausage had no hint of cheese.

Giant N.Y. Brownie with Ice Cream

The final redeeming dish for this restaurant. The N.Y. Brownie with Ice Cream is only 65% ok. Brownie is average in taste and is pretty dry. The Ice-cream however saved the day with its rich and creamy flavours.

The service here is commendable. The waiter, Ashley (yes, a guy), was attentive to us and made sure that we were well served. While waiting for our dessert, he made the effort to check with the kitchen and informing us, even without us asking for it.

This place deserves a rating for:
Food: 5.5 / 10
Service: 7 / 10
Ambience: 7 / 10

Overall: 6.5 / 10

For ambience, this place is a nice place to be in. The price that you pay for eating here is kind of hefty, so do not come here if you have a tight budget and you intend to bring your girl/boyfriend here for a treat.
